History

The Cambridge Water Polo club formed in 2013 with five founding players and Coach Lauren Hall.  The founding CWP players were Darby Goodyear, Sean McGinty, Nicky Northen, Sarah Moore and Austin Thistleton.  Cambridge combined with Titans Water Polo to field a team for games the first year.

Coach Hall brought a background in water polo, having played in California since 2000, competed in NCAA water polo and national zone teams, and having coached water polo in various states since 2004.  It was Coach Hall’s desire and objective to expose kids to the greatest game and give them a chance to do something different and fun.  In this first year when the CWP team was short of players for some games and there was no league forfeit rule, Coach Hall would occasionally join the team, often scoring the most goals.

2014

In 2014, CWP fielded a full but young team coached by Lauren Hall.  The League placed CWP in Division III. The team finished the season having lost every game but gaining valuable experience and playing time.

2015

The CWP program continued to grow under Coach Hall’s leadership and in 2015, CWP won its very first game!  They finished the 2015 season with three wins. The 2015 team MVP was Jake Todd. Eddie Northen, the father of senior player and member of inaugural team, Nicky Northen, assisted in coaching this season.

2016

The CWP program continued to grow as it entered its fourth year of competitive water polo.  2016 saw CWP get better and be competitive, finishing the season with two victories. Kevin McCreanor, the father of player Colleen McCreanor, assisted in coaching this season.  The 2016 team was lead by seniors Jason Yang, Lauren Lee, Cameron Chong, Darby Goodyear, and Sean McGinty.

2017

Enthusiasm for Cambridge Water Polo continued to grow as the 2017 CWP team had twenty-nine players.  With Coach Hall out for the season on maternity leave, Brian Lee, stepped in to coach the team. Brian is the father of player Brandon Lee and former CWP player Lauren Lee. Coach Lee enlisted the help of assistant Coach Ralph Pollifrone and the guidance from GHSWPA referee Taylor Cunefare who volunteered her time to help the team during practices at the Alpharetta YMCA. The 2017 CWP team set new records for the program finishing the season with ten wins against four losses.  The team finished the regular season tied for third place. CWP played their best water polo of the season when the team earned second place in the DIII State Tournament.  Cambridge had three League All-Stars in 2017 – Nicholas Iline, Brandon Lee, and Callum Parker.

2018

CWP expanded to two teams in 2018 with a record thirty-four players. CWP fielded a Division 2 team and a Division 3 team. The Cambridge D2 team tied for seventh place in a divsion of fourteen teams. The Cambridge D3 team tied for eighth place in a division of 10 teams. Coach Brian Lee and a returning Coach Lauren Hall were joined by coaches Darren Chambers and Rad Mignerey. Cambridge had two League All-Stars in 2018 – Nicholas Iline and Brandon Lee.

2019

CWP fielded two teams in 2019. A division 1 men’s team and a women’s division team. The Cambridge D1 team had a 3-12 overall record and placed in eleventh in a divsion of twleve teams. The Cambridge women’s team started out the season short of players so they had to forfeit some games but came on strong at the end of the season to finish with a 3-12 record. The men’s team was coached by Brian Lee. The women’s team was coached by Lauren Hall.

From the beginning and continuing every year, CWP has followed the objective set by founding Coach Lauren Hall.
